Project Overview
Buffalo Engineering provided mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection engineering services for the redevelopment of the historic E. & B. Holmes Machinery Company Building Complex at 55 Chicago Street.
Located in the heart of the Ohio Street Corridor, the property was transformed from a historic manufacturing complex into a mixed-use, entertainment-focused destination overlooking the Buffalo River. Originally known for manufacturing wooden barrels, the complex was comprised of three primary sections that encircled a central courtyard. Over time, portions of the property deteriorated and required demolition.
The $16 million project included a three-story, 30,000 SF new build and a two-story, 25,000 SF mix of new construction and renovation to revitalize the site. The Cooperage at 55 Chicago Street is home to Resurgence Brewing Company, a world class rock climbing facility, 10 market-rate apartments, and Hartman’s Distillery Co.
Resurgence Brewing Company’s 25,000 SF facility features a two-story tap room and restaurant in the historic Pattern Building, along with banquet space and beer gardens. Central Rock Gym’s 21,000 SF facility offers indoor rock climbing, fitness and yoga, with over 300 linear feet of bouldering walls up to 45 feet in height for beginners to advanced climbers, a kid-specific climbing area, and dedicated workout and yoga space.
