Schenck House at Grover Cleveland Golf Course

Project Overview

Buffalo Engineering provided mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection engineering design and construction administration services for the full restoration of the historic Schenck House. Constructed circa 1822, the Schenck House is widely regarded as one of the oldest extant stone structures in the City of Buffalo and is located on the grounds of the Grover Cleveland Golf Course.

The project included comprehensive upgrades to support the building’s new use as a public museum dedicated to Erie County park and regional history. Buffalo Engineering’s scope of work encompassed design and administration of new HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems, as well as fire protection engineering to meet modern standards. Work included installation of new restrooms, interior and exterior lighting, and accessible entrances and walkways to improve safety, comfort, and ADA accessibility.

The restoration addressed years of deferred maintenance and water damage, and successfully integrated new systems while preserving the historic character of the limestone structure. The rehabilitated facility now supports public exhibits, park programming, and community use, ensuring long-term preservation of this significant early 19th-century building.

Buffalo Engineering’s contributions helped transform the Schenck House into a revitalized cultural asset that honors both local history and community accessibility.
