Project Overview
Buffalo Engineering provided mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineering services for the replacement and rehabilitation of existing systems at the Reuben Bud Bakewell, or “Riverside,” Ice Rink. Originally constructed as an outdoor rink, an enclosed structure was built over the rink in 1984. The facility is owned by the City of Buffalo and operated through an agreement with Hasek’s Heroes.
The project included replacement of the ice refrigeration system, under-slab heating system, ice slabs and concrete, rink ventilation system, dehumidification system, refrigerant leak detection system for the mechanical room, and building automation system.
Our scope of work included analysis of the existing systems; MEP design for the refrigeration room expansion; design of a water line for the refrigeration system condenser; new heating and ventilation systems for the refrigeration room; electrical service for the new refrigeration system; BMS connection to the refrigeration system control system; connection of the gas monitoring system to the fire alarm system; dehumidification improvements; floor drains; and modifications to receptacles and lighting.
