Project Overview

Buffalo Engineering provided mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection engineering services for the $30 million redevelopment of the former Donovan State Office Building into Class A office space, a 96-room Courtyard by Marriott hotel, event/meeting space, retail and restaurant space.

The eight-story building contains approximately 160,000 SF of developable space. The project was designed to achieve a minimum LEED Silver designation (LEED BD+C: Core and Shell v2009).

Our engineering services included building energy modeling to help determine the most energy efficient HVAC design. Of the five options presented, the Owner selected the Water Source VRF – Offices & Hybrid WSHPs – Hotel in consideration of project costs and building constraints. Our design included energy conservation measures such as condensing boilers, energy recovery units, variable speed drives, and energy efficient lighting. Additionally, we prepared energy load calculations and other documentation to support the LEED submission.

The project received LEED Silver certification.
